Strengthening Laboratories

Ensuring the quality of condoms is important to help reduce the spread of HIV. See how the U.S. Agency for International Development and USP helped to strengthen the capacity of Ethiopia’s national condom quality control laboratory to protect Ethiopians from substandard condoms.

Reliable, efficient laboratory systems, whether involved in clinical diagnosis or the quality testing of medical products, are an integral part of a strong health system. A trusted clinical laboratory result enables a healthcare practitioner to make an informed and targeted treatment decision. A strong quality control laboratory provides a regulator the confidence needed to take decisive, evidence-based actions to protect patients from poor quality or fake medicines.
