USP Workshop on Adulteration & Fraud in Food Ingredients and Dietary Supplements

Workshop Overview

Adulteration and fraud in food ingredients and dietary supplements are major concerns for industry, consumers, and regulatory authorities. USP’s workshop brings together internationally recognized experts to discuss the current state of technologies for detecting economically motivated adulteration and minimizing supply chain risk. Speakers from Walmart, PepsiCo, the European Commission, as well as technical experts from the University of Guelph, FOCOS, and Fonterra will be included. An optional olive oil tasting session will be held at the conclusion of the workshop.

Olive Oil Tasting (Limited Seating - Separate Registration Needed)

Join two of USP’s Olive Oil Authenticity and Quality Expert Panel volunteers, Mr. Paul Miller and Dr. Richard Cantrill, as they lead an olive oil tasting to understand the general process of performing sensory analysis on extra virgin olive oils. Participants will be led in a discussion of the use of sensory panels in determining the quality of olive oil products, the desirable attributes of high quality olive oils from around the world, and sensory defects that are apparent in oils. Sensory qualities will be discussed in relation to the processing of the oils, including how geographic origin and climate specifically impact the overall flavor and chemistry of olive oil products.

Time of Event: 2:00 – 3:30pm, subject to change based on workshop end time
