Course Description:This course discusses key requirements in USP General Chapter <800> Hazardous Drugs—Handling in Healthcare Settings. The course will describe the standards to protect personnel, patients, and the environment when handling hazardous drugs (HDs). Handling HDs includes, but is not limited to, the receipt, storage, compounding, dispensing, administration, and disposal of sterile and nonsterile products and preparations. The course will provide an overview of the chapter and describe personnel responsibilities and educational expectations. It will also cover facility design, engineering control, and documentation requirements.Upon completion of this course, you will be able to:

  • Describe the scope of USP General Chapter <800>, including the types of exposure, a list of HDs, and how to design an assessment of risk
  • Define the responsibilities of personnel who handle HDs
  • Describe the requirements for personal protective equipment (PPE)
  • Summarize HD training requirements
  • Describe the facility and engineering controls used for handling of HDs
  • Identify the practice areas affected by USP <800>, such as receiving, transporting, storing, compounding, labeling, packaging, disposing, dispensing, and administering HDs
  • List the documentation requirements and concepts of hazardous communication and medical surveillance programs
  • Describe the environmental quality control and proper cleaning and spill control management of HDs

Who should participate: All healthcare personnel who handle HD preparations and work at facilities that store, prepare, transport, or administer HDs (e.g., pharmacies, hospitals or healthcare institutions, patient treatment clinics, physicians’ practice facilities, veterinarians’ offices).
 Earn Continuing Education Credits (Live): NABP and the NABP Foundation® are accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education as providers of CPE. ACPE Provider Number: 0205This knowledge-based course has been approved by NABP and the NABP Foundation® for 6.5 hours of live continuing pharmacy education credit (CPE) (.65 CEU) for both pharmacists and pharmacy technicians. COVID-19 Policy:For Classroom registrations, onsite attendees must be
fully vaccinated,
as defined by the CDC, adhere to CDC guidelines on social
distancing, and state, local and USP mask requirements. We will continue to
monitor the COVID-19 pandemic as the course date approaches, and there is a
possibility that the in-person Classroom offering will be cancelled. 
If
this occurs, we will offer the option for a full refund or we can transfer your
registration to the virtual option. 
Registration Cancellation/Refund Policy: A USP Education course may be cancelled due to lack of enrollment, inclement weather or other unavoidable factors. In the event of a course cancellation for such reason, USP will provide a full refund to all registered participants. We will do our best to provide at least a two (2) week notice for classroom course cancellations.
