USP Convention

Over 200 years ago the first meeting of the USP Convention was held. On that day in 1820, 11 doctors gathered to establish standards for medicines to help ensure that the medicines prescribed, were the medicines taken, regardless of where a patient lived. Since then, the Convention has grown significantly and its impact has expanded across the globe, but its purpose remains much the same – to help protect patient safety and strengthen the global supply of quality medicines.

As one of USP’s governing bodies, the Convention contributes valuable perspectives that help guide USP’s areas of impact. In addition to collaborating on critical healthcare and science matters, every five years, Convention Members adopt USP Resolutions and elect USP’s Board of Trustees and the Council of Experts who lead USP’s standards-setting Expert Committees.

2020 - 2025 Resolutions

The USP Convention Membership adopts Resolutions that help guide USP’s areas of focus throughout its five-year cycle. Each year, USP reports to its Membership, Expert Volunteers, and other stakeholders on its progress against the Resolutions.
