Roger L. Williams, M.D.

Williams has transformed USP into a global organization by establishing international sites and leading USP's outreach efforts to national and international bodies that share USP's public health mission. His foresight and ability to create sustainable relationships with health organizations, manufacturers, pharmacopeial, and governmental bodies from around the world has been integral to USP's growth. Under his leadership, USP has continued to expand its various public health initiatives, including supporting FDA's international offices and working toward a safer global supply chain. USP has significantly increased efforts to help underserved countries strengthen their quality systems and good manufacturing practices for medicines through its Global Health Impact ProgramsPQM, TAP, OMCL networks, and CePAT. During his tenure, the Council of Experts has become more global in its composition and scope: as of 2012, it features more than 200 experts from 35 countries who work together to set quality standards for pharmaceuticals, food ingredients, and dietary supplements. Williams also spearheaded the launch of the Medicines Compendium, USP's freely accessible compendium of quality standards for medicines sold in any country.
