Jerome Halperin

Before joining USP Jerome Halperin was a commissioned officer in the U.S. Public Health Service for 25 years. He first served in the Indian Health and Marine Hospital Services and later became a radiological and environmental health specialist. He joined the FDA Bureau of Drugs as Deputy Associate Director for New Drug Evaluations in 1974, becoming Deputy Director of the Bureau of Drugs in 1977, and later acting Director of Drugs National Center for Drugs and Biologics from 1982-83.

In 1989 Halperin became USP's Executive Director-Designate and went on to serve as USP's Executive Vice President and Chief Executive Officer from 1990-2000. While at USP Halperin was a staunch advocate of international harmonization of drug standards and establishing standards for dietary supplements.

Halperin was awarded the Remington Honor Medal by the American Pharmaceutical Association in 2001 as well as a Distinguished Service Award from Drug Information Association. Mr. Halperin graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree from Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey, and earned a Master of Public Health degree from the Johns Hopkins School of Hygiene and Public Health, as well as a Master of Science in Management from MIT, where he was a Sloan Fellow.
