Ken’s role as General Counsel is the culmination of a career devoted to practicing law as in-house counsel to nonprofit organizations. As General Counsel, Ken’s primary responsibilities include ensuring the integrity of USP’s standard setting activities, and advancing commercial opportunities for USP while balancing and mitigating risk to the organization. Ken believes strongly in developing and mentoring the legal staff that he manages, and in creating a collaborative and supportive environment in which creativity and new approaches to old problems can be vetted and implemented. Ken is also responsible for overseeing USP’s global security function, a role he created for the organization following the September 11 attacks. He also manages USP’s Global Compliance and Ethics group. Ken joined USP in 1995 as USP’s first full-time business lawyer. He was appointed General Counsel in 2025.

Ken has previously served as interim head of USP’s human resources department for five months and as manager of USP’s record management function. He is the Executive Sponsor of USP’s Interfaith Alliance Membership, and Executive Producer of the Singing Standards.
