Hermes van der Lee serves as Senior Vice President, Global Laboratory Operations, for USP. He is responsible for the Reference Standards Laboratory, testing new and replacement lots of candidate reference materials, and for the Reference Standards Production area where USP reference standard products are manufactured. His responsibilities also include overseeing the Production Planning and Technical Services group where all reference material testing activities are coordinated.
Hermes has extensive experience in the pharmaceutical and toiletries industries. For more than 20 years he worked for the Gillette Company, performing and leading research in the areas of deodorants and shaving products. In 2001, he joined McKesson Bioservices (later known as Fisher Bioservices) as Director of the Analytical Laboratory, where he was responsible for the testing of developmental drug products for pharmaceutical clients. Immediately prior to joining USP he served as Technical Director for Lancaster Laboratories; in this role he provided technical and managerial oversight of teams of scientists working at clients’ facilities.
Hermes joined USP in November 2010. He received both his undergraduate degree in chemistry and his “Doctoraal” degree in organic chemistry from the University of Leiden (the Netherlands).
