Monitoring quality of stockpiles of Avian Influenza drugs—Presented at the USAID Avian Influenza Partners Meeting, March 25-27, 2008, in Bangkok, Thailand, this poster describes USP DQI's Activities on Avian Influenza in Southeast Asia (45KB) between September 2007–March 2008. Working with local partners, USP DQI will obtain comprehensive information on all suppliers and distributors of oseltamivir in the region to support a preparedness to outbreak scenario. (46KB)
Maintaining quality in Avian Influenza drugs—The poster Simple, rapid basic tests for evaluation of quality of oseltamivir (294KB) was presented at the International Symposium on Avian Influenza: Integration from Knowledge to Control, January 23-25, 2008, in Bangkok, Thailand. It describes three basic analytical techniques validated at the USP Laboratory that can be used in the field to test for oseltamivir quality.
Ensuring quality zinc products for children—At the 25th International Congress of Pediatrics (ICP) in Athens, Greece, August 25-30, 2007, Dr. Joyce Carpenter presented a poster on Zinc adjunct in the management of children's diarrhea: Ensuring product quality. (1.1MB) In her poster session, she illustrated how USP DQI efforts in the field will help toward making accessible high quality medicines that treat and prevent acute diarrhea in children.
Detecting the Quality of Drugs—At the Seventh International Congress on AIDS in Asia and the Pacific held July 1-5 in Kobe, Japan, USP DQI staff exhibited a poster and presented a skills-building workshop on "Using Simple Tools to Detect Poor-Quality ARVs" (1.2MB) and exhibited a second poster discussing "Why Be Concerned about the Quality of Antimalarial and ARV Drugs?" (359KB)
ICIUM Conference 2004—USP DQI staff presented information on the "Operational Guide to Improve Drug Quality in Low-Income Countries," (1.4MB) and "Antimalarial Drug Quality in Mekong Region" (2.9MB) at the International Conference on the Use of Medicines held March 30–April 2 in Chiang Mai, Thailand.
SEAM Conference—USP DQI staff addressed the importance drug quality (676KB) and substandard/counterfeit antimalarial drugs (175KB) in the Mekong Region at the 2003 Strategies for Enhancing Access to Medicines (SEAM) Conference held December 10-12 in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. The meeting is a global effort to improve access to essential medicines and health care services, particularly in developing countries.
Effect of Substandard Drugs Used in Infectious Diseases (84KB)—A poster on the use of counterfeit and substandard drugs and its threat to the lives of patients with infectious diseases concludes that strategies must be used to identify such products and exclude them from the market, presented at the 11th International Conference on Infectious Diseases held in Cancun, Mexico on March 4-7.
Change in Dosing Suggested for MTCT—USP DQI staff gave an oral poster (551KB) presentation at the International AIDS Society Conference (IAS) on HIV Pathogenesis and Treatment held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, July 24-27, recommending that infants born less than two hours after maternal nevirapine dosing during labor receive an additional dose of nevirapine immediately after birth.
Identification of Counterfeit and Substandard Fixed Drug Combination Tuberculosis Drugs to Prevent the Emergence of Multidrug-Resistant Tuberculosis (15.1MB)—Availability of counterfeit and substandard tuberculosis drugs has reached alarming proportions in some Southeast Asia countries, one of the contributing factors in the spread of multidrug-resistant TB. This poster describes how USP provides the information to identify authentic products.
Antimicrobial Resistance Poster (2.4MB)—This abstract imparts how developing and disseminating a drug standard monograph in the USP-NF and a drug information monograph in the USP DI® may help reduce the incidence of antimicrobial resistance from counterfeit and substandard anti-infective drugs.
HIV Poster (261KB)—Illustrates how clinical trials on simplified regimens of zidovudine, zidovudine plus lamivudine, and a single-dose regimen of nevirapine have shown encouraging results in preventing the mother-to-child transmission of HIV-1 infection, especially in resource-poor settings, and which antiretrovirals could be better utilized in countries that may be unable to implement the Pediatrics AIDS Clinical Trials Group (PACTG) 076 zidovudine regimen.
TB Poster (360KB)—Abstract that discusses the use of rifabutin for the treatment of tuberculosis in HIV-infected patients undergoing antiretroviral therapy.
FDCs for TB-HIV/AIDS
Fixed-Dose Combinations for TB and HIV/AIDS (87KB)—An abstract of the literature search USP conducted on studies and reports about fixed-dose combination (FDC) drugs, recognized as a key component in effective treatment for TB and HIV/AIDS, that USP DQI staff presented to the 14th European Congress of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases in Prague, May 1-4. |
