"A Collaborative Epidemiological Investigation into the Criminal Fake Artesunate Trade in South East Asia," an article published February 12 in the journal PLoS Medicine, describes the collaborative effort of police, chemists, criminal analysts, palynologists, and health professionals to shut down the manufacture of some fake artesunates in Southeast Asia. USP DQI contributed to the project by supplying postmarketing surveillance data; Dr. Souly Phanouvong and former USP DQI Director Nancy Blum were among the co–authors. About the Matrix

Drug Quality Matrix  (315KB)—A synopsis of USP DQI's drug quality project that monitors trends of increasing availability of substandard and counterfeit drugs and reports them in a matrix, providing a tool to increase awareness about the gravity of the problem. The full matrix details, by country, instances published during the past five years that demonstrate the global extent of poor drug quality. The matrix is updated monthly.
