The USP Verified Dietary Ingredient Process
USP verifies dietary ingredients submitted to its verification program through
- An audit of the manufacturers' quality systems for compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices
- Review of ingredient manufacturing and quality control documentation
- Laboratory testing of ingredient samples from selected lots for compliance with label claims and USP program requirements
- Post-verification testing to ensure that Verified ingredients continue to comply with program requirements
USP tests are carried out in accordance with the USP's official or proposed standards for dietary ingredients, and also against international guidelines where applicable.
