USP Spectral Library Project
The USP Spectral Library is a new initiative to develop an authoritative and comprehensive collection of spectral information on food and drug quality. With potential applications in
- quality standards development,
- rapid screening in the field for counterfeit and substandard medicines, foods and dietary supplements based on portable analytical technology, and
- the identification of raw materials as well as finished products,
the USP Spectral Library can be a useful tool for regulatory authorities, law enforcement agencies, hospitals, pharmacies, manufacturers, and distributors around the world.
Companies and organizations can get involved in the USP Spectral Library Project by contributing expertise, providing resource materials, donating spectral samples, collaborating in studies, and more.
For nearly 200 years, USP has developed standards for the identity, strength, quality, and purity of drug substances, drug products, and excipients. As a leading authority on standards, USP is well positioned to develop and serve as a central repository of reference spectra sourced throughout the world.
