USP Expert Volunteers Receive Awards at Science & Standards SymposiumUSP warmly congratulates the members of two volunteer USP Expert Panels whose time, energy, and work were recognized at an awards ceremony during the USP Science and Standards Symposium in Seattle, WA.  Dr. Gregory Amidon accepted the USP Award for Outstanding Contribution to the Standards-setting Process on behalf of the General Chapter <1197> Good Distribution Practices for Pharmaceutical Excipients Expert Panel.  This Expert Panel was a joint effort of three Expert Committees - Physical Analysis; Excipients; and Packaging, Storage and Distribution.  The Panel addressed critical areas including quality management, documentation, containers, labeling, organization and personnel, sampling, adulteration, and pharmacy compounding.   Dr. David Campen accepted the USP Award for Innovative Response to Public Health Challenge on behalf of the Medicare Model Guidelines Expert Panel.  Within six months, this Expert Panel reviewed three year’s worth of newly approved Medicare Part D drugs, gathered public input, and engaged the services of Drug Information Centers at schools of pharmacy to develop drug information monographs for the Model Guidelines Categories and Classes.  The Expert Panel was also recognized for upholding the principles for which USP was named in the 2003 Medicare Modernization Act.
