Method Proposed to Determine Authenticity of Naturally-Derived Food Ingredients—The new method responds to increasing demand from manufacturers and consumers to reduce the environmental impact of products by using natural (e.g.,plant-or animal-based) ingredients. The method may also be applied in counterfeit detection. Review and comment by March 31, 2011 on this method and a host of proposed standards for ingredients used in functional foods, infant formulas, as sweeteners and antioxidants. New Prescription Container Labeling Standard Proposed—The proposed General Chapter <17> Prescription Container Labeling is a new chapter that recommends universal standards to help reduce consumers' misunderstanding of medication instructions as prescribed by a healthcare provider. A recent article in the American Medical Association's amednews.com signals heightened interest about the standard within the medical community. USP is seeking comments from a broad range of healthcare practitioners and other interested parties, which will be particularly useful to the Expert Committee as it finalizes the chapter. Please submit comments by March 31, 2011.
Revised Positron Emission Tomography (PET) Compounding Standards Presented—Proposed revisions to USP General Chapter <823> Radiopharmaceuticals for Positron Emission Tomography (PET)–Compounding are available in PF. The changes constitute a major update to this General Chapter, and USP is encouraging interested parties to provide comments by March 31, 2011. A free informational Webcast is planned for mid-February and details will be posted to the Web page. FAQs are also available.
