USP Presents Candidates for 2010–2015 Council of Experts — The Nominating Committee for the 2010–2015 Council of Experts (NC–CoE) has concluded its deliberations and hereby presents its slate of candidates for the 2010-2015 Council of Experts. The election will take place at the April 2010 Membership Meeting. Additional biographical information on each candidate will be included in the Report of the NC–CoE that will be posted in the Delegate’s Virtual Notebook on the USP Web site in March.

USP Seeks Comments on Revisions to Chapter <1163> Quality Assurance in Pharmaceutical Compounding — Participate in the standards-setting process by submitting comments on proposed revisions to General Chapter <1163> Quality Assurance in Pharmaceutical Compounding which appears in the January-February 2010 edition of Pharmacopeial Forum (PF). The deadline for comments is April 15, 2010.

One-Third of Antimalarial Medicines in Three African Nations Found to be Substandard — The first results from a large-scale study of key antimalarial medicines in ten Sub-Saharan African countries reveal that a high percentage of medicines circulating on national markets are of substandard quality and thus may contribute to the growth of drug-resistant strains of Plasmodium falciparum, the most virulent form of malaria. The findings, released by the Promoting the Quality of Medicines (PQM) Program, a USAID-funded program implemented by USP, are for three countries surveyed in the study—Madagascar, Senegal, and Uganda. Global Pharmaceutical Quality Supported by USP-India Expansion — USP held a groundbreaking ceremony on February 11th for a planned expansion of its USP-India Private Ltd. facility in Hyderabad, India. The new facility will allow USP to work more closely with the Indian Pharmacopoeial Commission, manufacturers and other stakeholders in India to help ensure the quality of the Indian food and drug supply, for use in India and for export.
