Register for Free PF, Available Only Online Starting in January—In January 2011, Pharmacopeial Forum (PF), USP's journal for public comment, will become a free, online resource. The new PF will include proposals for which USP is seeking public comment. Other items currently published in PF will be available on USP's Web site. Register Now for Free PF.

New Prescription Container Labeling Standard to Promote Patient Understanding, Web Meetings in January—The January online PF will include General Chapter <17> Prescription Container Labeling, a newly proposed standard to optimize prescription label content and format intended to promote safe medication use. The standard:

  • Organizes the label in a patient-centered manner,
  • Emphasizes dosing instructions and other information important to patients,
  • Simplifies language,
  • Includes the purpose for use,
  • Limits auxiliary information,
  • Addresses limited English proficiency, and
  • Improves readability.

Free informational Web meetings on <17> will be held in January. For more information and to register, contact USP Member and Professional Relations. The comment deadline for the Chapter will be March 31, 2011.

Revised Positron Emission Tomography (PET) Compounding Standards—Nuclear medicine, radiology, and diagnostic imaging practitioners involved in PET drug production are asked to comment on proposed revisions to USP General Chapter <823> Radiopharmaceuticals for Positron Emission Tomography (PET)–Compounding. Details on <823> and its relation to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration's Final Rule on Current Good Manufacturing Practices (CGMSs) for the manufacture of PET drugs are available. Free informational Web meetings on <823> will take place in February 2011. Comments should be submitted to Dr. Ravi Ravichandran by March 31, 2011.

Pharmacy Compounding Accreditation Board (PCAB) Accredits 100th Pharmacy—USP congratulates PCAB on reaching a major milestone by accrediting its 100th pharmacy. Since its founding in 2004, USP and seven other leading pharmacy organizations have served on PCAB's governing board and supported its mission. PCAB's voluntary accreditation process helps to ensure that compounding pharmacies meet the highest quality standards.

USP CEO Dr. Roger Williams Speaks at University of Georgia College of Pharmacy—On November 18, 2010, USP CEO Dr. Roger Williams delivered the 2010 Kenneth L. Waters Lecture at the University of Georgia College of Pharmacy, a USP Convention Member organization. The lecture is named for Dean Waters, who served as the college's Delegate at the 1970 USP Convention.
