Submit Comments on Standards for a Sodium–Free Salt Substitute, Mineral Oil, Glycerin, and Other Food Ingredients—The latest edition of the FCC Forum includes new and updated standards for food ingredients included in the Food Chemicals Codex (FCC). FCC's standards help ensure the continuing quality of food ingredients and help guard against adulteration. The FCC Forum is free and open to all interested parties for review and comment - the deadline for comments is September 30, 2010.

Consumers Urged to "Look for the USP Verified Mark" on Dietary Supplements—The September 2010 issue of Consumer Reports on Health, published by Consumers Union, recommended that consumers "look for the USP Verified mark" when purchasing supplements.

"It [the USP Verified Mark] indicates that the supplement manufacturer has voluntarily asked U.S. Pharmacopeia, a trusted nonprofit, private standards-setting authority, to verify the quality, purity, and potency of its raw ingredients or finished products. USP maintains a list of verified products on its website."

The recommendation was disseminated widely in the media, including CBS and FOX news, Web MD, the Washington Post, Los Angeles Times, Baltimore Sun, La Vaz, and The Money Times.

Information About Good Drug Storage and Transportation Featured at Joint Forces Pharmacy Seminar—Members of the U.S. Armed Forces who are involved in the transportation and storage of drugs will benefit from a presentation by USP Expert Committee Member Mary Foster, R.Ph., on USP General Chapter <1079> Good Storage and Transportation Practices at the Joint Forces Pharmacy Seminar, October 18-21, 2010 in Chattanooga, TN.

Learn and Network at GPhA/FDA 2010 Fall Technical Conference— Two USP Convention member organizations, the Generic Pharmaceutical Association and Food and Drug Administration, join forces to present the GPhA/FDA 2010 Fall Technical Conference, October 19-21, 2010 in Bethesda, MD. A special USP networking luncheon will be hosted at the conference on Thursday, October 21st.

USP Experts Discuss Rapid Microbiology Methods and Future Directions for Analytical Microbiology at Parenteral Drug Association Conference —Dr. Jim Akers, Chair of the USP Microbiology Expert Committee, will discuss Rapid Microbiology Methods at the Parenteral Drug Association's 5th Annual Global Conference on Pharmaceutical Microbiology, October 25–27, 2010 in Washington, D.C.
