USP MembersResolutions CommitteeThe USP Bylaws provide for the establishment of a Committee on Resolutions sixty days prior to the stated meeting of USP Membership. (The "stated" meeting occurs once every five years.) The Committee on Resolutions (or Resolutions Committee) comprises a minimum of five members appointed by the President to evaluate all proposals for resolutions submitted to it by individual members or member organizations. The President's custom, however, is to appoint the Resolutions Committee at least 12 months before the meeting so that Committee members can be included in any discussions about potential changes to USP's structure, systems, or strategic objectives. Members of the 2010 Resolutions Committee are listed below. The Committee meets throughout the months leading up to the membership meeting to evaluate proposals and to draft resolutions that, in its judgment, reflect the official policies of the USP. Considerable due diligence is exerted by the Committee in developing the final language of the resolutions. The Committee and USP staff work directly with those persons submitting resolutions to ensure that each resolution reflects the submitter's intent and that sufficient rationale is provided for full and informed discussions at the meeting. This pre-meeting deliberation and preparation of resolutions by the Committee ensures alignment with USP's strategic direction and mission. The process also seeks to determine whether each resolution can be supported by USP's expert volunteer knowledge base and to assess if there are any resource implications associated with implementing a resolution should it be adopted. The Board of Trustees considers adopted resolutions as important direction from the membership on USP's focus and initiatives for the next five years. Committee MembersMary H.
