USP MembersMember MemoApril, 21 2009 Dear USP Convention Delegates and Executive Officers of Member Organizations: USP Salutes Its Volunteers During National Volunteers Week — Please take a moment to read a special memo from USP CEO Roger L. Williams, M.D., to Convention Delegates and other USP Volunteers First Call for 2010 Convention Membership Meeting — USP issued the first call for the Convention's 2010 Membership Meeting, April 21-24, in Washington, DC at the Grand Hyatt Washington. Any member-eligible organization Constitution & Bylaws Comments Due by April 27th — Member organizations have one more week to submit comments on proposed changes to USP's Constitution & Bylaws. Submit your comments to the C&B Committee (C&B@usp.org) through April 27, 2009. USP Signs Memorandum of Understanding in Moscow and Launches Russian Translation of USP-NF — During a recent trip to Moscow, CEO Roger L. Williams, M.D. signed a Memorandum of Understanding on behalf of USP with the Federal Service on Surveillance in Healthcare and Social Development of the Russian Federation (Roszdravnadzor) aiming to improve the quality of medicines in the Russian Federation and the United States. Areas of potential collaboration between USP and Roszdravnadzor include reducing the prevalence of counterfeit and substandard medicines. While in Russia, USP also introduced the first Russian language United States Pharmacopeia-National Formulary (USP-NF) at the XVI Russian Man and Drug National Congress. Maryland Pharmacists Association Donates Pharmacy Artifacts to USP — USP thanks the Maryland Pharmacists Association (MPhA) for an assortment of equipment, hand-blown glass bottles, and books for display at USP Headquarters. The items are on permanent loan from the B. Olive Cole Museum in Baltimore, Maryland. The Cole museum had been housed in the same building as the MPhA, but when the MPhA moved to a smaller location, they were unable to keep the entire museum collection. Other pieces were donated to the University of Maryland School of Pharmacy and the American Pharmacists Association. Latest Issue of The Standard is Online — The latest issue of The Standard Last Call to the Workshop to Update Standards for Metals in Pharmaceuticals and Dietary Supplements — Scheduled for April 28-29, the workshop presents an opportunity for manufacturers, consumer groups and health professionals to provide scientific input to USPs standards setting activities related to metal impurities.
