USP MembersCommittee of TellersThe Committee of Tellers was formally established by amendment to the Bylaws at the 2005 stated meeting of the membership. (The "stated" meeting occurs once every five years and is called the Convention.) The committee comprises not more than six individuals appointed from among the members of the Convention by the President. The Bylaws require that the Committee of Tellers be appointed not later than 90 days before the stated meeting, however, in this cycle, the President appointed the Committee and named its chair shortly after the 2005 Convention so that it would be in place for the election of additional members of the Council of Experts, which was to take place during the cycle. The purpose of the Committee of Tellers is to oversee the elections processes used by the Convention to elect the Council of Experts, Officers, and Trustees both during and outside the stated meeting. In particular, the Committee of Tellers is responsible for ensuring the appropriate distribution, collection, and counting of ballots and reporting of the vote to the Convention.
