Members OverviewThe composition of the USP Convention membership is intended to ensure suitable representation of those sections of the pharmaceutical care and food ingredient communities that may be affected by USP's activities. The member organizations include:
Representatives from these organizations (USP members) guide and facilitate USP's work by executing their governance responsibilities at the membership meeting (see Member Responsibilities) and keeping their constituencies informed of USP activities and issues. Members also share with USP information and perspectives from colleagues in their organizations that are relevant to USP.
Official ObserversThe Board of Trustees has granted authority to the Membership Committee to establish an Official Observer Status within the USP Convention to allow participation and representation by organizations and individuals that collaborate and assist USP in its public health mission. Official Observers receive Member Memoranda and other member communications and are invited to attend (unfunded by USP) the 5-year meetings of the Convention. Observers do not have any of the voting rights reserved to members under the Constitution and Bylaws, and thus cannot vote at or between Convention meetings on amendments to the Constitution and Bylaws, Resolutions, or in elections of Officers, Trustees or the Council of Experts. If an organization is recognized for Official Observer Status, it is asked to identify an individual to represent it in the USP Convention. To date, the Membership Committee has granted Official Observer status to over 70 organizations from around the world.
