USP Headquarters—Rockville, MD, USA

USP was founded in Washington, DC, in 1820 and returned to the DC metropolitan area in 1971 to make Rockville, MD, its home. Our headquarters is conveniently located in close proximity to offices of the U.S. federal government, including the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and the National Institutes of Health, and to many scientific, professional, and patient safety organizations whose work involves or impacts USP standards. USP Headquarters is staffed by more than 550 employees.
Facilities
In 1989, USP constructed a new building on its Rockville site and completed a significant expansion project in August 2007. The current 225,000 sq. ft. headquarters facility, featuring an award-winning design and environmentally–friendly construction, includes a 141,000 sq. ft. office building with three laboratories—including a state-of-the-art biotech laboratory that has earned USP regional recognition as "Best BioTech Building"—and a separate 16,000 sq. ft. meeting center with a 273-seat auditorium, five meetings rooms, a volunteer lounge, and a training center.
