William F. Koch, M.S., Ph.D., Chief Metrology Officer

Dr. William F. Koch is Chief Metrology Officer for the United States Pharmacopeia (USP). Dr. Koch leads USP's metrology initiatives. He oversees the organization's research and development laboratories and production laboratories. He manages the production of reference material standards, the vials of chemicals that manufacturers use to ensure that their pharmaceutical substances are meeting the USP standards for quality, strength, and purity.

Dr. Koch brings to USP more than 30 years of experience in chemical science research at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). Most recently, he held the position of deputy director of the Chemical Science and Technology Laboratory at NIST.

Dr. Koch is also a fellow of the National Academy of Clinical Biochemistry. He has authored over 70 scientific publications and has had direct involvement in the certification of over 70 Standard Reference Materials. He received his B.S. in chemistry at Loyola University of Chicago. He earned a M.S. and a Ph.D. in analytical chemistry at Iowa State University.
