John T. Fowler, Chief Business Officer

John T. Fowler is chief global services officer for the United States Pharmacopeia (USP) reporting to the executive vice president and CEO, Roger L. Williams, M.D. In this position, Mr. Fowler is responsible for the growth of USP's programs, products, and services around the world. He oversees the development of USP's international facilities in Switzerland, India, and China, and their integration with Rockville, MD headquarters. He also oversees USP's technical assistance programs in low-income countries. Further, he carries overall responsibility for the financial and operational performance of USP's Publications, Verification Programs, Pharmacopeial Education, Sales and Marketing, Global Development and Strategic Integration, the International Technical Alliances Program, and Quality Assurance.

Mr. Fowler is a senior business executive who has an extensive background in the pharmaceutical and healthcare industry. He began his career in sales and marketing by leading teams in innovative and generic products, medical equipment, and healthcare services. During his business career, he has been responsible for all aspects of strategic and operational planning, general management, business and corporate development, public and professional relationships, and senior staff assignments. Prior to coming to USP in 1998, Mr. Fowler held senior-level positions as president, vice president, and general manager in several U.S. and international pharmaceutical and healthcare companies, including, Fujisawa USA Inc., Boots Pharmaceuticals Inc., and the Flint Division of Baxter International. Mr. Fowler also co-founded and operated an entrepreneurial company specializing in computer technology and innovative packaging for clinical trials.

Mr. Fowler received his bachelor's degree in business administration from Rutgers University and completed advanced management training at Harvard University Graduate School of Business Administration. He also has served as an officer in the United States Marine Corps and is a decorated combat veteran of the Vietnam War.
